Utilizing state-of-the-art equipment, our registered
medical sonographers perform examinations of the soft tissue portions
of the body, including comprehensive obstetrical, gynecological and
abdominal imaging, as well as vascular color flow and doppler
examinations.
In medical applications, a beam of ultrasound is
directed into the body. The sound waves passes through the tissue
by means of vibration. Reflections of the ultrasound occur at various
interfaces due to the different biological makeup of the tissues.
These reflections are then processed electronically and displayed as a
2-dimensional image on a computer monitor. We are, therefore, able to
"see" inside the body by utilizing ultrasound.
Ultrasound involves little to no discomfort and little
patient preparation compared to many of our other radiology
procedures. There are also no side effects associated with ultrasound.
The equipment used utilizes sound wave frequencies that are too high
to be heard by humans, and a transducer, which is a small
microphone-like device that is placed over the area being examined.
Abdominal ultrasound - used to evaluate gallbladder
(stones), liver, kidneys & other organs.
Doppler ultrasound shows movement inside the body, for
example, when the blood flows or the heart beats.
Transvaginal ultrasound uses a specially
designed transducer (approximately the size of a tampon), which is
inserted into the vagina. In some cases, these tests
provide better images than traditional ultrasound. Transvaginal
ultrasound may be used in early pregnancies or for pelvic procedures
to get a clear image of the pelvic organs or the pregnant uterus.

Ultrasound is a very useful tool to detect heart
problems, abdominal disorders, blood vessel problems, eye disorders,
cancer, pelvic disorders or other problems. Ultrasound is also used as
a key tool for assessing a pregnancy. We are able to determine size
and growth rate of the fetus, position of the fetus, movement,
breathing, and heartbeat of the fetus, and the amniotic fluid that
surrounds and protects the fetus. Ultrasound helps check the fetus'
health by measuring the amount of fluid within the uterus.
