Ultrasound

ABDOMEN (SPLEEN, LIVER, PANCREAS) During the abdomen ultrasound the liver, gall bladder, spleen, kidneys, biliary tree and pancreas will be seen. Abdominal blood vessels will also be evaluated. This is a diagnostic exam but does not evaluate function of the organs.

BREAST ULTRASOUND Patient will be scanned to evaluate a mass/density that has been seen during a mammogram or has been felt by a physician. An ultrasound will be the primary breast exam for women under 30 years of age.

BREAST CYST ASPIRATION Ultrasound technology is used to demonstrate a fluid filled breast cyst. A needle is guided into the cyst and the fluid is the drawn.

DOPPLER ABDOMEN (FOR MESENTERIC ISCHEMIA) Ultrasound of the abdomen with Doppler of the superior mesenteric and celiac arteries. After a complete abdomen ultrasound is performed the technologist will use doppler and color to evaluate the SMA and celiac arteries. The patient is then given a fatty meal and returns 45 minutes later. The SMA and celiac vessels are scanned using doppler and color. This is used to determine insufficiency of these vessels and any aneurysm.

GUIDED BREAST BIOPSY Ultrasound is used to localize a mass, for biopsy, in the breast. The tissue is obtained by directing the biopsy needle to the mass and breast tissue is obtained. Sample tissue is then sent to pathology.

OBSTETRICAL (OB) AND PELVIC Ultrasound is an excellent tool for evaluating the pelvic organs. A full bladder is usually necessary to use to provide a window for the sound waves to transmit to in order to get excellent images of the uterus, ovaries or pregnant uterus.

RENAL (URINARY TRACT) ULTRASOUND Ultrasound of the kidneys and bladder to evaluate size, shape and anatomy. It will evaluate the kidney for any tumors, masses, cysts, or solid lesions and any dilatation or blockage.

SCROTUM Ultrasound of the scrotum evaluates the scrotum for pathology after trauma or to rule out any masses.

SOFT TISSUE The use of ultrasound to evaluate a soft tissue, superficial mass.

THYROID Ultrasound provides an excellent tool for demonstrating soft tissue structures of the neck. This procedure will examine a thyroid and parathyroid glands as well as being able to visualize the vascular structures of the neck.

VASCULAR Ultrasound interrogates fluid filled structures excellently. This procedure visualizes the vascular structures (blood vessels, arteries, and veins) of the different body parts.
